Dust Monkey

Greetings from England.

After much thinking and a mild push from some friends its time i looked at being an orc again.

I am a UK larper who used to spend a lot of time as an orc/uruk. But mainly spend my time these days doing Post apoc.

But seeing year in year the amazing ork camp at epic empires has me needing to be a part of something that incredible.

I think from reading other posts that i will likely go the Uruk route.

Below is an example of my previous Uruk design, i will be building something entirely new for EE however.. some people may know me already as Dust Monkey

I have some questions, how does the camp work in terms of groups, different types or orc, organisation etc.

is it best to be part of a group for EE, i assume yes?

You're right. It makes sense to go to the EE with a group. But it is also possible to participate without a group via the OHL garrison. But players who are in the garrison should better tell you about it.

I hope all of us aren't in hibernation at the moment :D

Welcome to the mud ;)

I wrote a short abstract focused on us Lotr-players but also mentioning some general points fpr this forum. Excuse my lassitude not wirting a new similar text again :-*

For cross references have a look at this introduction:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=15556&p=259513#p259513
One assumption for you: You will find all information in german and a subset translated into english. We use german, blackspeech and english (if needed) during our play.We try to include as good as we can, but google could be a friend, if it comes to reading backgrounds ;)

Urok gave a handy short description of the different groups inside the orc community.
You may have a look at the different groups gathered in this forum:
https://forum.orklager.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3966

He also mentioned our well established Lotr background, wich you may find here:
https://gratumurdur.fandom.com/de/wiki/ ... urdur_Wiki
We also use a subforum in this forum, wich you may enter.

Our main language is a corrupted mixture of german and blackspeech. We do the same if english speaking fellows join us, so that should be no problem for you and us :)
The Blackspeech used bases on a guide developed by players of this community. I know to sets of guides (there is at least one older and different blackspeech version) "Blackspeech - Dialect Rukh Nulûrz" and "Slog'bûrs Blackspeech Guide", Rukh Nulûrz is the newer one.
You may get a version of the guide here:
https://forum.orklager.org/viewtopic.ph ... lackspeech

As Urok wrote:
All Lotr-players are gathered in the "Grat û Murdur". You will find subsets of players under this roof, wich organize themselves as smaller troops and a variety of troop-specific backgrounds and details. Have a look at the group abstract for more information.

For your personal orc character:
Have a look at our information, read through our wiki and make yourself a picture of the "Grat". You will find several races, groupinformation and short character stories with pictures in this wiki.
Collect upcoming questions and we will answer them :)
I suggest making a detailed concept for your character (race, origin, profession, short story) and then show us what you made yourself. You are able to prevent some possible mistakes made in the past and prepare yourself a fitting character. This works best in a possible group for you, as the reaction times are much shorter. But take your time and do not hurry.
Regards,
the evil uncle Frûmgrat

Let me add one thing about the garrsion Hokur mentioned.
The concept or option named garrison has been put to rest late 2018, as far as I know.

Hi Artok and welcome here.

If you have further questiosn, specially to EE and OrkHeerLager, you can write it in the subforum for this and the OHL Orga see it and can answer to this directly.

Kind regards

So me and my buddy Stickweeds have started sketching out and designing some of the armoured aspects of the build. Leaning heavily on the Gundabad Orcs from the Hobbit

I like your drawing and the skirt is good work.
Nevertheless I would like to give you a slight guide or lead for your further process of constructing an orc chracter.

A great amnout of newcomers start building their orcs clothing and forget about the background or fitting into the whole concept.
That often leads to clothing being without a structure and even without a logical connectiong.
This leads to the folllowing:

Do you have a concept for your character? A name, profession, skills, rank, certain troop you would like to join for EE?
These questions should build your characters basics. Add some details to his background and give this character some clothing, starting with the basics (trousers and tunic) and add more until you like to reach some layer of armor.
You may present these details here and you will get feedback out of the active lotr-orc-community :)
(Did you alread request to be added to the "Grat u Murdur"-subfroum?)

And a personal thing: Use more stitching and less rivets. Gives the pieces a clothing a more detailed look :)

for stuff thats genuinely load bearing, like the belt i always defer to rivets, the skirt is a lightyear from finished and all those rivets are going to end up all rusty looking before the end for that nice grime break up of the black leather.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to request access to that sub thread, i can find it but cannot find a way to request... clearly i am missing something.

Thanks for the tips on character and thus costume design, thankfully its not my first rodeo with costume design/creation being something i do professionally.

Currently i am working only on sketches and the skirt while i decide / read around the who, what , why etc of epic empires orcs. Before diving down into making concrete decisions.

Upps, forgive my oblivion by not explaining on how to request access for certain groups. But you managed to set a request anyhow :)

As I mentioned before: The rivet-thing is just a personal thing, no rule or something else ;)

If you have finished sketches you may show them and get some feedback :)
